EASTERN FISHERIES CHEF GEORGE KAROUSOS RECEIVES WORLD MASTER CHEF MEDAL

Eastern Fisheries Inc., a vertically integrated seafood company and the world’s largest scallop supplier, today announced the World Master Chefs Society (WMSC) awarded Eastern Fisheries’ own Master Chef George Karousos, with the Culinary Order of Merit Medal and Diploma in Culinary Excellence.

Two hundred years of knowledge and experience make up the Society with 350 world-wide members and 33 chapters around the world. Qualifications of the highest standard are required of members.  Chefs must possess diversity in their culinary skills and knowledge to be considered for membership, which is based on high qualifications, career achievements and industry recommendations.

Chef Karousos, whose awards and affiliations are complemented by five published cookbooks, was born in Greece. He apprenticed at his family’s gourmet restaurant and later attended the Ecole Barten Connet’s in Loire, France. Receiving his masters in culinary arts from the Panianos School of Cookery in Athens, Greece, earned him the title Master Chef.

After coming to the United States in 1963, he apprenticed at the Plaza Hotel and the Waldorf Astoria in New York, following the Waldorf he opened four of his own restaurants, including the award-winning Sea Fare Inn in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. For the past 10 years he has worked to promote Eastern Fisheries’ seafood products, developing new recipes and showing others, at trade shows worldwide, how easy it is to cook delicious seafood dishes.  Teaching others to cook and appreciate healthy foods are passions that continually drive his professional and volunteer work.
